CMRAP and JMP
The Centre for Malaria Research and Phytomedicine (CMRAP) is one of the Research Centres at the University of Harcourt. CMRAP started as Malaria Research Laboratory (MRL), which was officially commissioned as the Malaria Laboratory by the then Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nimi D. Briggs. The Malaria Research Laboratory was an outcome of a multi-centre research project involving the Department of Pharmacology, UNIPORT Research and Training (PIMRAT) University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
This project was sponsored by the World Health Organization WHO/TDR/ Multilateral Initiative on Malaria (MIM) in Africa.
The Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt in December, 2010 gave the approval for the establishment of the Centre for Malaria Research and Phytomedicine (CMRAP) and the then Vice Chancellor, Prof J A Ajienka, appointed a Director for the Centre in March, 2011.
In view of the above mentioned objective, CMRAP created the Journal of Malaria and Phytomedicine (JMP), whose focus is to publish innovative, original research and review articles, pre-clinical and clinical studies on malaria and related diseases. In addition, JMP also publishes scientific findings on the efficacy, safety and mechanism of action of plant extracts with anti-malarial potential.
